WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE...
It's still winter in Montreal but we are having one of the mildest
low-snow winters that I can remember. I hope I'm not speaking
too soon here!
On Ground Hog Day, February 2nd, all of the famous groundhogs
here in N.A. apparently saw their shadows which folklore dictates
means that we will have another 6 weeks of winter. Let's hope it
doesn't go out like a lion!
It has been great skating weather, so my daughter Leela and I went
skating on Valentine's Day on the pond in Lafontaine Park in the
east downtown part of the city. It was great! Almost no wind,
minus 2 degrees, and they were playing classical music on the
sound system. Idyllic, really. It was like a winter scene from
a William Notman photograph. (Famous photographer who chronicled
the history of Montreal and many parts of Canada on film between
1860 and 1890). During that time he took tens of thousands of
beautiful b/w photos.
Whoops! I almost forgot to mention the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Like all good Canadians I have been glued to the TV for the past
10 days of so. Go Canada Go!
